Homegrown criminals, media, students, universities, law firms - WE are all potential victims of a lawless convict who runs the government as a mafia don would. We will protest. The loyal cops and military will kill us for protesting. Will Civil war be far behind?
Excellent article and links across history and culture! Thank you! Especially revealing that the majority are at Level 4 - Law & Order - morality. No wonder the campaign to “save democracy” fell on deaf ears, and the ethic of “liberty and justice for all” is meaningless to many people. The destruction of our public educational system and now our universities will increase public ignorance and bias against Levels 5 and 6. Moral and ethical reasoning will become extinct in our media - except among outliers.
Even as a kid I was uncomfortable with how certain movie cops always were about who were the bad guys. I even stopped reading a detective fiction series i had liked because of this insistence that the detective 's gut instinct of guilt ought to override a jury trial. Tv shows always exonerate cops for "righteous kills." And how often was the public defender depicted as an earnest young woman, often of color, who was shrill, naive, and annoying as she insisted her client had rights while the cops shouted her down with comments about his victims' rights. We're adults and we know that movies and tv are fiction, but I've always wondered how much it seems into our subconscious.
Terribly disturbing. I appreciate what I learn from this, but it's so painful. We are so very far from "a more perfect union", especially during the current regime.
Excellent. Great stuff. We've allowed ourselves to be maneuvered into this position in the name of entertainment dollars. There's another film genre type: I don't think you mention: the suffering female's revenge movie. These are the movies where a female protagonist suffers physical and/or sexual violence, shame, and degradation at the hands of an aggressor, then seeks her own revenge against the attacker. The 70s movie "I Spit on Your Grave" immediately comes to mind. There's a slew of others.
Also I agree with Julianne (above), the part about most of the country operating at Level 4 is revealing. It explains so much about people's responses to the violations of rights we're seeing.

JHC! Astonishing stuff. I suspect you cannot wait until the midterms; I doubt they will be allowed to happen.
